From Lather & Lull to Copper & Cocoa: My Journey

Hey friends,
If you know me, you know I’m not much with words. That’s Cocoa’s gift—she’s the witty, wordy, tech-savvy brains behind our operation. Me? I’m more of the quiet, crafty hermit type, usually hiding in the corner. But over the past week and a half, I’ve felt led to share a little bit about my side of this journey.
How It Started
This past summer, I started Lather & Lull Soap Co. with one simple goal: create just enough products to bring in a little extra income. Nothing big, nothing fancy. Just me in my kitchen, researching, printing out page after page of instructions, watching videos, and experimenting until I produced a handful of soaps and candles I felt proud enough to sell.
The plan was always small. Manageable. Something I could handle alone.
Enter Cocoa
And then along came Cocoa. She had the kind of ideas that could fill notebooks, spark product lines, and spin up slogans on the spot. She saw something in me, and she trusted me to take those ideas and make them real. What started as my little solo venture became something bigger, something bolder—Copper & Cocoa.
What I never realized was how much joy I’d find in this work. A simple vibrant bar of soap. A candle poured with the perfect balance of scent and color. They became so much more than just products. They became my pride. And when customers started loving them too? That feeling was priceless.
The Tears and Triumphs
But let me be real with you: this hasn’t been easy. I’ve shed actual tears over this business—tears of joy, yes, but also tears of frustration and defeat.
Hand-crafting is hard. Not every idea turns out like the vision in my head. Not every batch is perfect. Just the other day, I ruined five pumpkin swirl candles because my glasses overheated the wicks. I sat there, frustrated and overstimulated, with tears in my eyes.
But here’s the thing—those mistakes turned into something even better. With a little creativity (and a lot of patience from my husband), we transformed that setback into eight new products I loved even more. One step back, five steps forward. That’s small business. That’s determination. That’s heart.
What Copper & Cocoa Means to Me
This is more than just soap and candles. This is me putting every ounce of myself into each product—my “Copper touch.”
We’re not a big box store. We’re not slapping private labels on someone else’s creations. We are 110% original. Real. Authentic. Handmade. Each candle, each bar of soap carries its own unique flare. No two are ever truly alike, and that’s what makes them special.
When you bring Copper & Cocoa into your home, you’re not just buying a product—you’re taking home a piece of us. Our sweat, our tears, our joy, and our Southern sass.
Thank You
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here. Thank you for believing in us, for supporting our small business, and for welcoming our creations into your homes and routines.
This is small business.
This is big dreams.
This is Copper & Cocoa.
With love,
– Copper
